Allegheny Lock & Dam 5 and 6 are two run-of-river hydroelectric projects with a collective 18.1 MW capacity located in Freeport, PA on the Allegheny River. Each is equipped with two horizontal pit-type hydroelectric turbines. All Dams 5 & 6, which began commercial operations in 1989, produce a long term average generation of 79,766 MWh of clean electricity annually, which is enough to power 7,670 homes.
